Title: 2,451 Pieces of a Flower, 2D Mixed Media/Collage
No Image Available This collage is composed of 2,451 individual squares, which represent pixels. I took a picture of this flower from my garden. I captured several pictures that day; however, I liked this one compositionally the best. I made this collage by first painting various colors onto pieces of paper, which I later cut into strips. Then, I cut those same strips into 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch squares. I drew a grid onto a black matte board and created a pattern of the lights and darks. I used varying heights to add a 3-D quality, which the eye is drawn to. I also varied the values to create a contrast, which makes the collage more appealing. In order for this piece to work and to show the beauty of a flower, I had to make this collage very large. This project took many hours and I at first I had doubts about it, because it didn't look like a flower close up. As I got farther into finishing the project, the art came to life. It is meant to be seen from a distance as some impressionistic art is as well.
