Title: The Colors in Me , 2D Mixed Media/Collage
This collage is a self portrait. I took several pictures and decided to do a portrait where I am smiling because that is visual how I see myself. I drew my image on colored mat board. To make my project unique, I decided to use dried paint chips. The paint chips are a collection from various palettes. Most people would throw them away but I found the paint fragments to have an interesting use. I started by sorting the different colors and values. Rather than sticking to a realistic approach for the portrait, I was inspired to incorporate unusual colors to replace some of the tans in my natural skin tone by using cool and warm colors for the shading to add depth. I then started to place the paint chips according to the color I saw in my picture. I decided to use a value scale of blues for my shirt to add an artistic interest. This project took a long time but I really learned a lot about color. I am pleased with the outcome, it has unique color and textural qualities.
