Title: Colors of Me, 2D Mixed Media/Collage
This piece is a self-portrait collage that presents the viewer with a solemn mood. My intention in creating it was to construct something unique using color theory rather than using realistic colors. I began by taking a picture of myself and then cutting a piece of matte board proportional to my picture. Then, I cut up numerous small rectangular pieces of color swatches and glued them onto my matte board. While doing this project, I kept in mind the different values that I needed to use in order to show contrast throughout the collage. I also constantly thought about the placement of the warmer and cooler colors to represent the shadows and highlights. By doing this, it created dimension and made everything look more detailed and realistic. After doing this piece, I became more aware of the importance of lights and darks, as well as the importance of value contrast. I am very pleased with the outcome of this collage.
