You'll need the following information to enter the MSHSL Visual Arts Competion:

  • Your school's code (provided to your instructor by the Region 3A Event Manager)
  • The title of your work
  • The Category into which your work falls. Click here for descriptions.
  • Your "artist's statement" (a word-processed statement, less than 200 words, which includes:
         a. a brief description of the project;
         b. a description about the development and source(s) of the your ideas;
         c. a description about the procedure, techniques, and/or medium used in the work
  • The name of your local newspaper (optional)
  • Your graduation year (or years if you collaborated on the piece)
  • Optional: A digital photo of your piece. The photo need not be resized, but you may crop. During upload the photo is resized to either 400 x 320 pixels (vertically oriented photos) or 320 x 400 pixels (horizontally oriented photos). Rotate a vertical photo so the top is up.
  • The name of the workshop you want to attend on festival day (or the names of the workshops if you collaborated on the piece). Click here for descriptions.
  • If your entry is the product of collaboration, you'll need the information above for your collaborator(s).

Submitting an entry certifies the following: A) that the work is an original work. If it is a derivative or inspired by another author, the work must have been substantially changed to reflect your own originality; B) that the work has been completed within the previous twelve months; C) that the work has not been submitted to a previous MSHSL competition.
