Title: iWood, 2D Mixed Media/Collage

iWoodis a self-portrait-reflection of a picture I took of myself in the exterior mirror of my pickup. I decided to do a monochromatic painting, because I thought it would give the image a moody blue feel. My intention in this painting was to show the viewer a moody side to myself hence, why I decided to use an image where I wasn't showing much emotion. I then decided that I would use wood slices so I had my grandpa cut the wood into pieces for me on his bandsaw. After glueing the slices to create a repetition of shapes to the base, I began to paint it. I soon ran into a problem when I started to paint the face, there was a large gap in the wood slices and it made the painting more abstract than I had originally planned. To fix this, I cut up small twigs and filled in the gaps where I thought it was necessary. This piece is one of my favorite works that I have done.
