Title: Uhngix, Digital Photography

Uhngix. My sister of the far north. I am looking into the eyes of a young girl facing the challenges of winter. She is shy, but she is brave. She is my beautiful, understated sister. Even though she was somewhat unwilling to pose for this photograph, her true self was revealed in this image. This image inspired me to begin my journey as a photographer. I chose the Inuit word for sister as the title to also reflect this feeling I get of the far north. Her eyes make me feel strength, compassion, and bravery. The sharpness of this photo forces one to look at every line, every hair, and every detail of her face. Look even closer and you begin to notice the difference in depth of field between her fur coat and face. The contrast and differences in texture between the color of her eyes, the shadow between her face and coat next to the white fur puts emphasis on the key elements of this image. The composition was cropped to be asymmetrical and helps draw the viewer in for a closer look. All these principles of design work in conjunction to help make this a memorable image.
