Title: Platter, Ceramics

I started this semester wanting to make pieces that were bigger and more artistic than what I had made in my first semester in pottery. I started with making platters and am still continuing to make them because I find that they are easier for me to throw but I like a challenge so I have been pushing myself to make them bigger and bigger. I have experimented with many different techniques to make my platters more unique. One of my favorite things to do is decorate the center of my plates with slip designs. I enjoy the variety of textures and patterns that can be achieved while making ceramics. It is a very organic medium and lends itself to experimentation I have also tried many things on rim of the platters such as cutting, shaping, punching holes, and carving patterns, which I did on this plate. I really like the glaze that I chose for this plate. I think the turquoise color works well with the darker blue around the rim and their combination makes the carvings really pop and ties the whole piece together.
