Monday:
Announcements: This week we will assign lesson times for students working on solos and ensembles. The special groups are working towards memory of their selections for the Pops Concert on February 13.The choir will be performing three numbers. The first week of our new semester went very well. We welcomed back 7 upper classmen who have been in choir previously. It should be a very exciting semester. This choir works hard, listens well, and is willing to try lots of ideas to improve our group. We have started our contest music, and may add another selection this week. We are using a more wholistic approach this year - by trying to get to the heart of the music right as we learn the notes and rhythms.
Tuesday:
Voice Skills: Our current topics include resonance/frequencies, structure of the vocal tract, production of consonants. We never cease work on breathing, freedom of sound, and improving tone by working on registers.
Wednesday:
Theory / Music Reading: We are working on 4 -part reading of short songs. Each level will start sightreading in another key this week.
Thursday:
Interpretation Skills: When we attended the Dorian Festival in Iowa the new conductor there gave a workshop on marking a score (piece of music). It was enlightening and I shared some techniques with the choir last week. They caught on right away. It involves bringing the music to life through emphasis of the text right from the get go.
Friday:
Literature: We will finish up all the learning of our 3 Pops pieces this week! They are fun and not too difficult. We will go slowly with our contest pieces.
