Week: 09/03/2012 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
This week we will get into our new assigned places, get folders, and start our new music.
The boys' voices have all been tested, and the girls will be tested at a later date.
There are a couple of new ways we are doing formative assessment this year: using whiteboard slates, journals, and small group singing/self evaluations.
We also will be emphasizing group rhythm practicing.
Students will continue to be evaluated for participation and effort on a daily basis
Voice Skills:
Need lots of work on proper inhalation and exhalation
Alignment concepts will be explored
Head voice practice
Do some diction practice with rhymes
Rhythms/Music Reading /Theory Skills:
Continue with letter ladder, handsigns, solfeggio, singing letter names

Body movement with percussion beat background
Following conductor

Music Analysis Skills: Use journals
Vocabulary word last week was "rhythm" (music element #1)
Vocabulary word this week is "melody" (music element #2)
Do overview of the song All is Calm
Repertoire and Activities:
Continue "My Lord"
Start "All is Calm"
Other selections will be coming this week, and one more needs to be chosen
Learn the rounds together. do Benji Bear with ostinatos
Start one African folk song with goal of adding drumming
