Lesson Plans
7-8 Charger Chorus 3rd Q 11.12 Lesson Plans
Week: 02/20/2012 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements: Students are feeling sense of accomplishment from last week's concert. Now we turn our attention to our third and final concert in April; 18 rehearsals away! We have five of the six pieces chosen:
1. Ode to Joy by Beethoven
2. Courage
3. Rhythm of Life
4. Just Beyond the Rainbow's End (girls)
The sixth piece will likely be something upbeat and pop style
5. This Train (boys)
Voice Skills:
Readdressing resonance, colors of tone in the voice, breath energy for vibrancy. Students continue work on sight-reading and rhythms. As always we emphasize singing chords, holding pitches, balancing out the different parts. Boys continue to work on range.
Music Reading: We are going to use Ode to Joy as a reading vehicle. It is in four parts with almost 100% chords. We will practice singing it in solfege (do-re-mi syllables) Rhythm of Life is another piece that works well for reading because of independence of parts.
Analysis: on Thursday we will do one analysis page on "Courage", a new piece written in 2011. Meaningful text about never giving up and pressing onward.
