Week: 04/11/2011 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements: This will be a big week for us because our concert is next Monday APRIL 18TH! We will rehearse Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Students are expected to wear black pants, black shoes. (Girls may wear black sandals, but no flip flops)THey may wear a shirt of their choice.(Boys, ties are optional. Girls wear a modest top with sleeves at least elbow length)
Voice Skills: Our emphases for this quarter are on good vocal tone, diction, and dynamic contrast. The students are making marvelous progress on all three. We hope to demonstrate those skills at our concert at 7:00 P.M. in the auditorium!
Reading Skills: These 7th and 8th graders are very cooperative about sight singing. We do rhythms and notes most days, working both treble and bass clef. We have recently been doing some two part sight singing.
Interdisciplinary Applications: As a teaching staff and school we have embarked on an intiative to improve reading (comprehension as well as vocabulary) and writing skills throughout our school disciplines. After our concert the students will read material that relates our song choices to social studies and current affairs as well as understandings of varying music styles. Then the students will write paragraphs.
Music Analysis: We will also need to do one more song analysis before the year is out
Repertoire: We are making progress on our five selections. The girls are starting to master the Chinese in "Mo Li Hua", the boys are getting the notes and diction "A Full Sheet and a Flowing Sea" song, we are finally getting the rhythms and entrances better in "Footloose". We will focus again on "Small Part of the World" and "O Sing with Joyful Pleasure" this week as we pull our concert presentations together.
