7-8 Life Music 1st Q 12.13 Lesson Plans
Week: 09/03/2012 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
We have 30 students in Life Music this fall.
So far we have feverishly practiced rhythms on drums every which way. We created our ABA rhythm patterns for our first composition.
In addition we commenced guitar playing; hand position, strings, frets, strumming, and ONE CHORD!
THIS WEEK: We will turn our attention to keyboards and moving ahead with our compositions, doing some assessment with rhythms, and starting with journals
Rhythm Skills:
We will cover the following tasks this week: using white boards to take dictations, using checkoff sheets to complete the task of being able to play their own rhythm composition,
creating small ensembles with color percussion and guitars (Friday)
Also on Friday we will start our African Drumming circle
Guitar Skills:
We will do formative assessments with whiteboard slates to practice guitar concepts, then we will use checkoff sheets to complete the tasks of holding the guitar accurately, what frets do, how the strings are organized, how hand works, how to properly strum
Scales and Notes and Keyboards:
We will be tracing our hands and numbering our fingers for piano, and for guitar (they are not the same)
We will practice writing a C scale and learning proper fingering for playing scales on the piano
Composing: Mrs. Knott will present how to create your song AT THE KEYBOARD, and a short presentation on how to do Finale with your song.
