7-8 Life Music 1st Q 12.13 Lesson Plans
Week: 09/24/2012 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements: 5 weeks into the quarter we are really in 'good gear'. Most of the students have their composition underway, have started piano lessons, and can play 2-3 chords on guitar. As a class we have been reviewing basic theory (the structure of chords, scales, note names) and have started hand drumming. All students have done a considerable amount of review of rhythm patterns via drum playing.
Some students have already started writing their compositions on staff paper and one has placed his song into FInale.

This week: Follow checklists to complete theory tasks, rhythms, and guitar chords.

The students are divided into three groups (and subdivided into 6) because the class is large (33 students); so the opportunity for piano lessons only comes once every two weeks.
Continue emphasis on completing original songs - step one, and move into step two: placing the song onto staff paper. Mrs. Knott helps add left hand chords for the majority of the students. (About five students are capable of creating their own left hand accompaniments)

A number of students will need to start practicing their own composition in earnest.
Start some students on 'note playing' on guitar
Encourage the start of some ensembles as we look ahead to concert in November. Four students are interested in a guitar ensemble.

Once some songs are completed we can determine some ensemble groupings of piano, guitar, drums, other percussion
