7-8 Life Music 3rd Q 09.10 Lesson Plans
Week: 03/08/2010 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Goals/Requirements: Students have a series of requirements and a number of choices in the upcoming weeks. They enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to begin their third composition last week. They will have a choice of performing it in class at our recital or during our May 10th concert. Some are composing guitar melodies, some are creating rhythmic guitar chord progressions, many are creating piano pieces, with a lot of students adding left hand chords or patterns. Three boys are doing rhythm ensembles, and a number of students are making a melody that will be played on an Orff instrument. All students need to be accountable and show Mrs. Knott their work in progress this week. Being part of an ensemble is entirely up to them; they may recruit others to accompany their solo composition, but it is not required this quarter.
Rhythms/Scales: We stayed in the key of C major or a minor. A couple of students had some ideas in other keys so we will accomodate them. We added two new rhythm patterns and will continue to practice them as a class.
Guitars: We will be adding two new chords this week and making our choice for our 'oldie' to play together at the concert. Then we will practice!! And practice some more. We sure could use some more guitars! Any out there?
Piano: Peggy Klasse will continue to give mini-lessons on two songs, and assist students with playing their original compositions
Listening: We will finish our analysis of a pop piece
Other: African drumming technique here we come.
