7-8 Life Music 3rd Q 10.11 Lesson Plans
Week: 01/03/2011 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Theory Skills: Review key of C and key of G. Introduce the key of F and the concept of a B flat within scale structure. All the students need some work in meter and maintaining a steady pulse while playing. Many need practice in keeping the note values steady within the context of the meter. We will do some drums and conducting to reinforce these skills. The students also need some drill for matching what they play on the keyboards to what they read on the staff.
Guitar Skills:
We are going to do class guitar this month focusing on five songs that will be used at the next concert as sing along pieces with the audience. We will also use some percussion and keyboards to accompany.
Piano Skills: Mrs. Klasse will be introducing the students to new songs this month and quarter, matching them to the students' individual abilities.
Composing Skills: We are going to have the students compose directly with keyboards this quarter; underscoring the utilization of patterns that are 'finger friendly' and rhythms that they can write and play successfully. We will emphasize phrases, musical ideas, and cadences, while matching what they play on the keyboards to what they read on the staff.
Listening and Analysis: We will analyze one classical selection this quarter and one popular top forty song they students suggest.
Class Structure: We have five keyboards for piano instruction, 9 keyboards for practice and composing, as well as 3 acoustic pianos. For the next month we will practice theory, rhythms and guitars from 9:15 to 9;30. From 9:30 to 10:00 we will have piano lessons and time for composing (we will also use Orff instruments for song creation.
