9-12 Concert Choir 1st Q 12.13 Lesson Plans
Week: 09/17/2012 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements:We are making good progress on all fronts. This week we really want to emphasize 'bravery' with sight singing and music reading.
Assessments: We will use slates to practice G major scale, F major scale. We will use the other slates to practice T/F questions on voice skills and vocabulary understanding. Using journals for reflection on quotes chosen with the theme of 'character'. Journals are also used for setting personal goals on singing or other skills
Voice Skills: We are moving into the concepts of management of breath that is compressed, yet can flow through the sound while the body's musculature supports the sound. We will sing in concentric circles and experiment
Music Reading Skills: We are branching into G major and F major for sight-reading and interval practice. More ownership and self evaluation will be encouraged, as we use smaller groups to demonstrate and perform; we will go around the choir
Music Analysis and Music Listening Skills: The students have forms for both of these. We are emphasizing the vocabulary contained within each and using power point format to analyze two pieces this quarter. We finished the first one last week (Come to the Music) and will begin Gloria by Vivaldi this week. Also we will practice with the listening analysis with a YouTube performance of "Come to the Music"
Repertoire: Finish note and rhythm learning of Come to the Music, same for Gloria and Boston. Work intently on the girls' piece and the boys' piece.
