Lesson Plans
9-12 Concert Choir 3rd Q 09.10 Lesson Plans
Week: 02/15/2010 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Our major #1 goal this week: Work hard to learn contest music

We will get into the details of learning and practicing the music; notes, rhythmic unification, phrasing, intonation of chords, dynamic levels, careful adherence to the emotions of the text and music, careful work with the text for consonants, work the vowels with correct breath energy for good tone throughout the choir.
On Tuesday we will work two sections of "Whether Men Do Laugh or Weep" and two sections of "Lux Beatissima". On Wednesday we will do sectionals (working groups separately) the very same portions of the music that we did on Tuesday. On Wednesday we will again practice as a large group on another portion of each piece. On Friday we will again do sectionals to cement the learning of the previous 3 days.
The students will need to be very focused, mature, highly involved, and listening.
Each student will need to pull his/her own weight in order to be a part of this 70 voice ensemble.
Seniors will be in charge of sectionals. They will have a sheet that outlines what they are to do and what questions to discuss with their groups
Special Groups: We will have Vocal Jazz for non-jazz band members on Tuesday. On Wednesday we will have Choralaires, and on Thursday Boys' 50's. Contest music for each group has been selected and needs to be commenced!
Solo/Ensemble Contest: Our #2 goal this week is to get music and recordings to students involved in solo and ensemble contest. A rehearsal schedule, calendar, and pointers for practice will be issued to each student along with their music.
Written Work:The students have study sheets for our two contest pieces that they can begin working on, especially if they are waiting while another section is rehearsing.
