Announcements: Happy New Year!
1. Dorian Festival coming up next weekend
2. Students will be practicing for the Barbershop weekend in Jackson
3. Students will be signing up for solos and ensembles for spring
4. Pops concert is coming up very quickly. Students may participate in the variety show at the beginning of the concert. Sign up this week.
5. We will be working on standing/sitting arrangements this week for optimum sound of the group
6. Students will be reminded of the necessity of concentrated effort in the coming weeks.
Voice Skills:
The title of the group of skills this quarter is "Bringing a Song to Life: Four Fundamentals of Interpretation" Breath, text, rhythms, and phrasing. This week we will focus on energized breath for appropriate articulation
Reading Skills/Theory: We will start analysis of our first contest piece, looking at the structure and content of the piece in terms of text, music theory and reading opportunities.
Analysis skills are covered simultaneously with these group studies
Listening and Evaluating: We will do the standing/sitting arrangement listening exercise in the cafeteria to determine best overally sound of each section of the choir
for the pops concert: "Hallelujah" from Shrek "Can't Stop the Beat" from Hairspray, and "Haven't Met You Yet" a hit from Michael Buble.
for contest: "Festival Sanctus" and "Sano Duso" from Serbia
