9-12 Concert Choir 3rd Q 10.11 Lesson Plans
Week: 02/21/2011 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements: Our first goal is to get Sano Duso up and going, and continue with Festival Sanctus. With time being at a premium, we will be concentrating heavily on our music for contest and try to do all other elements of our curriculum within the context of those two pieces.
Voice Skills: In line with our curriculum for quarter three "Bringing a Song to Life: Four Fundamentals of Interpretation" we will look specifically at "phrasing": shaping lines to reflect the meaning of the text, deliver dynamic contrast. This is a very important aspect of Sano Duso, the folk song from Serbia.
Reading Skills/Theory Skills: Explore the theory of F Major and f minor to their relative keys. Read the patterns and practice singing harmonic minor interval accurately. Look for repetition and form
Analysis and Cross Discipline Applications: With Sano Duso we will analyze melodic themes, harmonic structures, form, and keys. Each section will be assigned to some topics pertaining to Serbian culture and will use internet to make mini-presentation to choir.
Repertoire: Sano Duso, introductory lessons for the first two days. Begin learning notes and rhythms in earnest, at the same time as the Serbian language and text meaning. Emotional involvement in this piece is crucial from the start. Students have to connect it to their own lives. Festival Sanctus, continue from page 6, we are taking it slowly in wholistic manner to address all components of music making simultaneously.
