9-12 Concert Choir 3rd Q 11.12 Lesson Plans
Week: 01/16/2012 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements: Cookie dough sales begin on Thursday. This is the final push for fundraising this season, and a chance for many students to add funds to their Chicago accounts. On Saturday we will take interested students to the Barbershop Clinic in Jackson. This is always an extremely rewarding outing for singers. We have a month until our joint Jr.Sr. High Variety Show/Pops concert to be held in the auditorium on February 13. We have two months until our large group contest in March. We will be working on both with great diligence in the coming weeks.
Music Literacy/Voice Skills;
In quarter 3, we will finish our focus on the Key of G, and move on to the Key of F. Further, we will emphasize four part reading.
Voice skills we synthesize the separate components of singing from qtrs. 1-2. Breath energy for intonation, tone, and accurate articulation will be this week's emphasis
Music Analysis/Vocabulary:
We will continue our careful analysis and breakdown of "Son de Camaguey" and take at least a preliminary look at "Laudate Dominum". We have vocabulary words pertaining to the Spanish piece as well as learning the Spanish text itself.
Students will get their first analysis form this week
Listening: After finishing our analysis of Son de Camaguey, and initially being introduced to the melodic and harmonic themes, we may very well listen to a recording of the piece.
We will also start listening to sections within our choir to encourage full participation
