Monday:
Topic: Nutrient Cycling
Lesson: Students will learn about how water, carbon and nitrogen cycle through the environment and why it is important. We will watch video examples from past classes of how the cycles work. Trophic menus are due.
Assignment: Work on chapter 2 wkst/ finish last portfolio
Tuesday:
Topic: Community ecology
Lesson: Portfolios due (last time!!). We will be covering a segment of chapter 3 when we talk about limiting factors that determine where an organism can live, and ecological succession.
Assignment: Read chapter 3
Wednesday:
Topic: Ecological succession
Lesson: We will talk about section 3.1, discussing the topics of limiting factors and how environments change over time. Students will watch a mindbites video about primary and secondary succession.
Standard: 9.4.2.1.1
Assignment: Chapter 3 book questions, page 85, 1-13
Thursday:
Topic: Carrying capacity/ Population ecology
Lesson: We will be covering information and watching videos about carrying capacity of environments, talking about population ecology and the different reproductive strategies between r and k-strategists.
Assignment: Page 109, 1-25 from chapter 4
Friday:
Topic: Human population growth
Lesson: We will be working in small groups to analyze the textbook information on chapter 4.2 over human population growth trends. Students will present with partners on their assigned section. They will then work on outlining chapter 5 on biodiversity.
Standard: 9.4.2.1.2
Assignment: Read and outline chapter 5
