Lesson: We will continue working on chapter 14, learning about fossil evidence and how is supports the idea that extinction and speciation are part of the earth's history. We will being chapter 15 talking about Charles Darwin and his trip on the HMS Beagle.
Assignment: Begin working on the chapter 14-15 wkst
Topic: Adaptations
Lesson: Students will learn about the different categories of adaptations with several examples. They will be given an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of adaptation by creating a new species of rat that is adapted to a particular environment.
Assignment: Work on rat project if not finished by the end of class
Topic: Evidence of evolution
Lesson: We will begin talking about how species change over time and the five categories of evidence that support the idea that species are not constant. Students will work on filling out a flip booklet to help them make sense of the connections between concepts.
Assignment: Work on the 14-15 review wkst
Topic: Population genetics
Lesson: We will be talking about gene frequencies and how they change when evolution occurs. We will be doing a lab to help enforce the idea.
Assignment: Work on the chapter 14-15 review wkst
Topic: Types of speciation/ Evolutionary patterns
Lesson: We will finish the notes on chapter 15 about the ways species evolve and the patterns of evolution. We will finish filling out the flip booklet and work on the review wkst.
Assignment: Finish 14-15 for Monday
