Biology Block 5 3rd Q 13.14 Lesson Plans
Week: 03/03/2014 Instructor: Angela Larson Academics
Topic: Review of chapter 10 on Meiosis and Mendelian genetics
Lesson: We will spend the class period reviewing the wide range of information learned in chapter 10. We will also correct the chapter 10 review wkst in class.
Assignment: Study for the chapter 10 test
Topic: Chapter 10 test on Mendel and Meiosis/ Introduction to chapter 11 on complex inheritance patterns
Lesson: Portfolios are due. Students will test over the information learned in chapter 10. When everyone is finished, we will do the Rebop lab, in which students will created a marshmallow creature by using the laws of segregation and independent assortment. We will take "family pictures" of the students will their marshmallow creatures.
Assignment: Read section 11.1
Topic: Recessive/ Dominant Human traits
Lesson: We will be talking about the difference between recessive and dominant human diseases and how they are inherited. Students will watch a video about Huntington's disease and write a reaction paper.
Assignment: Read section 11.2 and 11.3
Topic: Pedigrees and Complex Inheritance
Lesson: We will talk about how pedigrees can be used to determine inheritance. Students will practice doing a pedigree in class. We will then delve into section 11.3 on complex inheritance patterns in humans.
Assignment: Begin working on the chapter 11 review wkst
Topic: Complex Inheritance patterns
Lesson: We will continue working on complex inheritance patterns in humans. We will also cover the topic of nondisjunction, when chromosomes do not properly separate during meiosis, and the implications of that situation.
Assignment: Work on the chapter 11 review wkst
