Charger Chorus 7-8 2nd Q 09.10 Lesson Plans
Week: 11/30/2009 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements:We had a very positive experience with our first Junior High Vocal and Instrumental Holiday Concert last week. All the students and each group gave commendable performances. As a chorus we discussed what was successful and what could be improved, we gave suggestions as to what could be done differently, and some ideas for our next concert. The students were very happy with the tape of the concert. We will continue to sing and prepare music from 4 categories: Classical Corner, American Heritage, World Music, and Because It's Good Music.
Singing Skills: We will review relaxation, breathing, and basic vowels. Our new skills will be to create vertical vowels and resonance. We continue to do chord singing, practice with rounds, and improvisational parts with folksongs
Reading Music:We have been singing do-re-mi syllables and concentrating on stepwise patterns. Our rhythm practice has been mostly quarter notes, half notes, and whole notes. We will add sixteenth notes this quarter. We do multi-tasking as often as possible having students keep the beat, while reading rhythms or notes at the same time.
Music Analysis: We will start our Classical piece this week: Praise the Lord, Alleluia! and one of our Good Music selections - Bye Bye Love. We are going to start writing about the treatment of the music elements in each piece on charts that each student will need to hand in. We strive to find and learn music that teaches and improves the students' musicianship and singing abilities.
Repertoire:The two songs we are starting are mentioned above. Another venue we are going to explore in the next couple of weeks is reading 4 part Christmas Carols.
