Choir 1st Q 06.07 Lesson Plans
Week: 09/04/2006 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
WWG High School Choir

Announcements: This week we'll devote time to procedures, creating a code of behavior for our group, defining who we are, getting to know each other, getting information about opportunities, assigning responsibilities and testing voices. We also discuss how grading is done and the importance of communicating with the instructor.

There are 91 voices in choir, about 36 freshmen, 21 each of sophomores and juniors, and 13 seniors. Our room is very full, but there is excitement and anticipation in the air. It should be a great year.

Singing Skills:
We will focus attention on breathing exercises, relaxation, posture, and connecting the breath to the sound this week. Also we will test voices for placement.
Music Reading Skills:
We will review the do-re-mi singing syllables, work with memory, and ease of singing those in the Key of C. Our music reading is done using the do-re-mi system.
Songs/Work Phase:
Hopefully by Friday we will introduce at least one song we are preparing for the fall festival in October. Next week we'll publish the list of songs we are doing for the festival.
Music Analysis Skills: None this week
Listening/Evaluating Skills: None this week
Paperwork: Students did a survey of other students Wednesday. Later we will have a get-to-know session in each singing section.
