Choir 1st Q 06.07 Lesson Plans
Week: 10/23/2006 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
News and Announcements: Wow is this quarter flying by. Today we officially start Vocal Jazz, Wednesday will be Choralaires, and Thursday will be Boys' 50's. Christmas is already in the air... We'll be singing holiday tunes already this week! But we will also be giving attention to some Veteran's Day music as well. The end of the quarter means we'll be practicing the main concepts of vocal production we've been working on because next week we'll do small group testing. Also we'll work with theory and sightreading these next days as the students complete the work in their portfolios.
Music: We are presently learning the "Star Spangled Banner" and we are going to try "Who Are the Brave" with the addition of girls' voices. Last week's festival (the 16th annual!) went very well. We will use a number of those selections at other times this year. Most likely we will learn 4 new numbers for Christmas: "The Hallelujah Chorus", "Jesus, Jesus, Rest Your Head", "Jazz Gloria", and "
Voice Skills: We've been using the discovery method, ,experimenting,compare/contrast,as we've explored vowel shapes, breath energy, posture, placement of sound, creating an inner smile, and the effects of opening the mouth as we sing. This week we'll explore 'onsets' and resonance.
Theory/Sightsinging:We will continue practice of the exercises for the three different levels.
Song Analysis / Listening Analysis: On Friday we will make a recording of ourselves for analysis purposes. As a class I will introduce the song analyis sheet that each student is responsible for.
