Announcements:Some important items this week:auditions and sign up for special groups will begin. Vocal Jazz is a mixed ensemble, Choralaires is for girls and Boys' 50's is for boys. Each group meets 7:30 a.m. once a week. Vocal Jazz on Mondays, Choralaires on Wednesdays, and Boys' 50's on Thursdays. Its crunch time for finishing our Avon fundraiser as well. Whether we take a spring band/choir trip will be determined in part by the outcome of this fundraiser. It takes over 300 dollars to take one student, and we have 138 students in the two groups. We will have boys' choir on Tuesday, and girls' choir on Thursday this week to prepare selections for our upcoming festival. The festival is October 17, with an afternoon concert.Five schools are participating this year: MCC, RRC, Fulda, Mt. Lake, and us. We will have a clinician from Blue Earth High School working with us, by the name of Mike Ellingson.
Voice Skills: We continue our emphasis on effective breathing, good posture, and relaxation of the vocal mechanism for efficiency in tone production. We are focusing on vowels this week, and listening to each other for 'choral tone' o
Music: We have four major pieces for the full choir. We have two of them completely learned: "To Music", and "Jubilant Song". We are about half way through "Ain-a That Good News", and will get a good start on "Battle Hymn of the Republic" this week, as well as the girls' number "The Ash Grove" and the boys' song "Water is Wide" A seventh piece will be learned by 12 members of the vocal jazz ensemble to prepare for a select group of 60 on the festival day. l
Music Reading Skills: As of yet, the choir is working together reading note names of both clefs and the corresponding solfege (do-re-mi) to get some facility and in-tune singing going; improving the ear for intervals and chords.
Music Analysis/Listening Skills
We will be looking closely at rhythms and patterns in the spiritual this week, the poetry and harmony ideas in Battle Hymn as well as the historical context and rhythm patterns of the same.
