Choir 1st Q 08.09 Lesson Plans
Week: 09/29/2008 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements: Vocal Jazz is meeting for the second time Monday. All students interested in Choralaires or Boys' 50's need to stop by this week. We got our small groups named and photographed for our bulletin boards; they are working on their first assignment and will choose their popular song that they will use to create a presentation for the class.
Goals This Week: Give your best singing all the time. Work the words, make the text say something. No flat line singing, get the forward motion in the phrases. Sing with excellent posture.
Singing Skills: Work on the following concepts:
1. "support" with the breath, and a sense of 'release' in sound
2.continue breath flow to sound flow, with no tension
3. follow up discovery of vocal tract shaping and resonance
4. new: begin work with registers
Music Reading Skills:
1. review intervals of the pentatonic scale
2. do more multi-tasking with rhythms and singing at the same time
3. practice conducting
4. read rhythms and exercises of drmfs and quarter, half, whole notes.
