Choir 2nd Q 06.07 Lesson Plans
Week: 01/08/2007 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
The Dorian Festival is on Monday and Tuesday. The choir students will be working on their song analysis sheets for "Hallelujah Chorus". In addition they will work on their theory and sightreading pages for their portfolios in my absence. We listened to ourselves on Friday and were pleased with a number of aspects from our Christmas concert. One area we made big improvements in was singing "in tune". We could clearly hear where we need improvement as well.
We have just about completed our decisions on Pops Concert music. Our seniors met and made recommendations regarding contest. Our music selection committee will meet Friday morning to make final choices on contest music. Special groups will meet Wednesday and Thursday. Students who need to do makeup voice lessons will need to get that taken care of in the next days.
We will spend time on sightreading this week. Another task we will be working on is "blend". We'll use risers to listen to sections and help achieve better blend by arranging the singers. We will continue to encourage all of our singers to 'sing out'. We will still work on singing with resonance (ring, openness, rounded quality to tone)
We'll finish our listening analysis on Wednesday and begin work in earnest on our Pops Concert music. Voice tests will be next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Our emphasis in that area has been the fabulous four: intonation, blend, resonance, and attacks and releases.
