Choir 2nd Q 07.08 Lesson Plans
Week: 11/05/2007 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements: We've got three new boys joining us this week. On Thursday the choir will sing "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" at the Veteran's Day program. We've got a good start on a number of our Christmas pieces. We are finishing final details of our Avon fundraiser, fortunately, because next week we start the cookie dough sales. During conferences there will be a 'box sale' of surplus Avon items. Stop by the choir room, maybe you can help us 'clean house'!
Our special groups are continuing and are on track for concert preparations. Below is a summary of the upcoming work this quarter.
Music: We will get into the heart of the "Hallelujah Chorus" this week, start on the Bach, and the Swedish folksong. We've been working "We Wish You" and the piece that is a combination of "O Holy Night" and "Still, Still, Still". We've just started "Be Not Afraid", so we are at entry level on all the pieces!
Singing Skills: We will be working on intonation, resonance,
phrasing, articulation, and crescendo/decrescendo this quarter. Overall, the choir is making good progress now towards a solid unified sound.
Music Reading Skills: We will continue our emphasis on the key of C, G, and F, as well as singing and reading sharps and flats. We will look more at four part singing, and emphasize chords more frequently.
Analysis Skills and Listening Skills: We will make a recording of ourselves on Thursday and then evaluate what we hear. We have been doing a fair amount of listening back and forth to each other and evaluating what we hear, and what needs to be different.
