Monday:
Announcements: Well! We already had winter! Glad that's over. We will have a fairly normal week, aside from our "Nunsense" production starting on Thursday. We hope to see many of you there! Our actor/singers have devoted many hours into this musical and deserve enthusiastic audiences. Special groups meet as scheduled this week. We will be sending out invitations to community and church singers as well as to parents to sing the "Hallelujah Chorus" with the WWG choir again this year. The students are excited to involve adults to join us again. We were not successful in getting our first 'pop song presentation' finished last week. But, undeterred, we will aim for TWO presentations this week instead.
Tuesday:
Reading Skills: We are continuing to work our musicianship skills of rhythms and sight reading. The exercises we are using re-combine and devise more complex ways of practicing these elements using solfege (do-re-mi-fa-sol syllables)and quarter notes, half notes, and whole notes and their equivalent rests.
Wednesday:
Voice Skills: We are looking at vocal anatomy this quarter, and we'll examine and discover the basic parts of the 'larynx' and
'pharynx' this week. We've been working with balancing the voice with efficient breath, and we'll be discovering more concepts related to resonance.
Thursday:
Music Analysis: We are looking closely at "Hallelujah Chorus", and the students will receive their study sheet for that piece this week. We are also discussing the harmony styles in "Christians All", the phrasing and rhythms in "Canon Carol", and harmony devices in "Jingle Bells".
Friday:
Listening: This week we are going to do some demonstration singing with the help of the vocal jazz to listen for various resonance differences, vocal qualities, and the effect of breath energy.
