Choir 2nd Q 08.09 Lesson Plans
Week: 12/08/2008 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements: It polish time. We need to put the finishing touches on all our pieces and get them committed to memory in the next five days. All special groups will meet as usual. Remember that parents are invited to sing the Hallelujah Chorus with the choir, and we will also include you with a carol sing-a-long with the band. There will be a practice at 6:30 in the choir room for all interested singers. We have had two popular song presentations; may have to wait for the next ones, depending on our readiness for the concert.
Voice Skills: We continue our resonance discovery: integrating coordinated breath flow with the larynx muscles. Always striving for freedom, not "control". We've been concentrating on the capabilities of the larynx and its dimensions and how that affects the sound. This week we will continue our experimentation and review sound waves and how they go through the vocal cords.
Reading Skills: We are practicing 'anacrusis' (upbeat), 3/4 meter, and skips and triads in our reading practices.
Music Analysis: Closer examination of form of "Tiny Little Baby" and harmony techniqes on Jingle Bells. Discuss polyphony in Handel.
Listening: We will strive to record ourselves on our 4 single pieces, and listen for analysis.
