Choir 2nd Q 08.09 Lesson Plans
Week: 01/05/2009 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements: Tenors and basses have a clinic Tuesday with Mr. Svenningsen of SMSU. Special groups meet as scheduled to shore up music choices for Pops Concert. A special committee selected our contest music and we will start that simultaneously with the Pops concert music. Voice testing will start this week and we will review and practice all the information that will be on the music reading test and the written test in two weeks. The different multi-age groups in the choir sign up as to their preferences of day. Mai Yer's group will be presenting their popular piece on Friday. We will try to have grades all updated by the end of the week. Makeup work will be available to anyone who wants or needs it.
Voice Skills: We will be focusing on the anatomy and function of breathing and the same for the larynx. We will also review concepts from last quarter: (alignment, inhalation, breath flow, basic voice qualities, vocal tract shaping) and emphasize this quarters':(vocal tract dimensions, consonants, coordination of breath flow and larynx functions and muscle coordinations)
Reading Skills: We are working to the end of the 'simple rhythm' independent patterns, and the five tone, stepwise melody patterns. These will be part of the reading test.
Music Analyis: We will be starting all new music the next two weeks. The pop pieces are generally analyzed from the standpoint of form and rhythms; contest music we analyze almost every element of music regarding the piece.
Listening: I asked KDOM to send us a copy of the Christmas concert tape they made for us. We will use this and analyze what we hear.
