Week: 03/05/2007 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements: Well, two school days got buried under the snow. So we'll have to work extra hard this week. This is the week to finish learning the two contest pieces. (There are 20 rehearsals until the big day.) As stated previously,we have been been working these in a wholistic manner: phrase by phrase we attempt to include all the elements of singing musically as the composer intended. That means for example that we breathe correctly, consistently try to use excellent tone, prounounce the words accurately, do the dynamics, sing with emotion and work correct phrasing right from the get go. It will be interesting to see if this slower paced more in-depth approach ultimately helps speed up the memory process.
All the special groups will meet as scheduled, as will solo, duet, and ensemble practices.
There is make up work for students desiring it to make up for absences.
Voice Skills / Listening Skills: We will likely put individual sections on risers this week. This activity will help us hone in on listening to each other, and focusing on the tone produced by the sections as we strive to improve in both areas. Each section continues to practice the areas of resonance and efficient breath use.
Music: The music for the spring concert has been decided upon. Hopefully we can take a look at a couple piece this week
Music Reading/ Theory: Our more difficult piece we are going to use do-re-mi syllables to help singing in tune and getting the chords and intervals accurate.Each section continues to practice all the other sections' parts to get a sense of what they are singing.
Music Analysis Skills: With our step by step approach, there is a lot more discussion of what we are seeing, singing, being asked to do throughout the songs. We try to look at the structure of the piece as well as the emotions being communicated.
