Choir 3rd Q 06.07 Lesson Plans
Week: 03/12/2007 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements: Wow, what beautiful weather! Snow gone by Friday?? This will be a busy week for the choir. Our freshmen and sophomores will be working on our fundraiser. The choir members continue to hone our two contest pieces. We are making very good progress now. We completely worked through both of them, addressing all aspects of the music as we went along. Now comes the fine tuning, memory and even better expressiveness. Special groups and solos, duets, and ensembles are in full swing, and students really need to come at their lesson times and be working on their own at home as well. Attendance at special groups is crucially important.
Voice Skills: We have been paying special attention to vowels, consonants, singing with energized tone and dynamics. We are also working to get a 'ring' in the sound (resonance)
Listening Skills: This area will be especially addressed this week.Every day a different section will be on risers set up in the choir room. This should enable the rest of the choir to listen and critique. Also, we need to do some recording and listening.
Music Analysis Skills: Hopefully by the end of the week we will be looking over 3 new pieces for the spring concert: "Praise We Sing to Thee" by Haydn, "Ev'ry Time I Feel the Spirit" (a spiritual), and "Turn the World Around" a piece in a Caribbean style. We will study the form, style, and harmony of each piece.
Music Reading / Theory: Again, we will use our new music as a springboard to reading and discussing theory aspects.
