Choir 3rd Q 07.08 Lesson Plans
Week: 01/28/2008 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements: The Barbershop Festival last weekend exceeded all our expectations. The students had a marvelous learning experience, music experience and social outing all wrapped up in one day.
All special groups will meet as scheduled this week. Crunch time for the Pops Concert. We've got to get all incompletes finished before Friday: most incompletes were because portfolios were not handed in. Tutorials are offered again this week, Monday after school and Wednesday after school in Walnut Grove. Westbrook students by appointment. We will be filling out interest surveys regarding solo and ensemble involvement. The goal is to have a schedule and all necessary materials prepared for the students by February 13th. The Pops concert is coming very quickly.
Last week we took time to listen and analyze the best seating/standing arrangement for every section. Its a time consuming but ultimately very helpful learning process. We have 36 boys and 44 girls for a round number of 80 students. On Monday the students will have an entirely new seating chart and folder number.
So now we really have to make huge strides in our music learning to be ready for the Pops concert on February 11th. However, in the meantime we will need to be working some on our contest pieces as well.
We will be discussing more this week on our monetary status regarding the spring trip to Chicago.

Voice Skills:Our main focus this week will highlight two ideas. One is to get the sound of the voice to resonate in the head and face, the other is on blending the sound of our voices, getting the lighter voices to join in with the stronger voices to get our optimum sound. Lots of focus on everyone pulling their weight.
Theory Skills/Reading Skills: We will continue our work in the keys of C, G, F, moving along to Bflat and D. More emphasis will be placed on singing four part sightreading.
Listening Skills: We'll do some section listening and comparisons for learning purposes.
Analysis SKills: A fair amount of discussion will take place as we probe our pieces and look for vocabulary, music concepts, and the meaning of the texts.
