Choir 3rd Q 07.08 Lesson Plans
Week: 02/04/2008 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements: We met all of our goals last week regarding music learning, ensemble practices, and voice skills. This week we will set memorizations goals, completing solo/ensemble survey sign-ups, special group rehearsals, and voice skills and reading/theory goals. We hope to have solo selections and ensemble pieces chosen by February 12th. This group continues to be very attentive and willing to experiment, try, and apply themselves in rehearsal; extremely enjoyable choir!!
Music: Our four selections need more dynamic contrast, sharper entrances and releases, better diction and memorization this week. The students, by the way, selected four very enjoyable pieces for this concert. They have been a lot of fun to work on. We will continue to examine the texts for analogies, figurative language, metaphors, and main idea, vocabulary, and music vocabulary (this is to support 10th grade statewide reading test that is coming up) Also, itis imperative that we take an overview look at our contest selections this week. Contest will come (March 18th) very quickly once the Pops concert is over.
Voice SKills: At the present time we are focusing on resonance, (getting the voice to ring, have full body, and the ability to project)To do this the singers must bring into play all the learning from first semester: posture, breathing, opening mouth, creating vowels: using the body to sing. We will add special focus to "diction" this week: attacks and releases to the phrases and words.
Theory: Its time in the quarter now to do music reading and work with scales and keys again. We won't have time to do a lot, but we will acquaint ourselves with the goals for this quarter.
