Lesson Plans
Choir 3rd Q 08.09 Lesson Plans
Week: 02/16/2009 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements: We are working very diligently on our contest music. Contest is 21 rehearsals away. We will be starting on solo and ensemble selections this week as well. We are striving for personal and sectional responsibility, and excellence in all we do.
Singing Skills: By working on the art of singing "phrases" we are aiming to 'synthesize' what we have learned this year: energized breath, vowels shaped for good choral sound, posture, and clear precise diction
Music Reading Skills: We are learning all three of our contest pieces at this time. We learn in a horizontal, holistic way, even as we aim to learn notes/rhythms/harmonies/text.By horizontal, we try to be musical and true to the intentions of the composer as we learn the piece.
Listening/Evaluating: This learning process can be slow at times, because their is an emphasis on listening and evaluating as we carefully learn each section of each song.
Music Repertoire: We are learning a Guatemalan folksong about a 'hummingbird', an German tune from early Pennsylvania called "A Rose Touched By the Sun's Warm Rays", and a contemporary piece entitled "Blessed Be the Name of the Lord"
