Week: 09/07/2009 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements: Because of the late school start, the 19th Annual Choir Festival is coming up very fast! It's only about a month away. So we will have to kick everything into high gear. However, with the outstanding young people sitting in choir, we will be able get ready!! At this time we have 39 boys and 35 girls in choir for a total of 74; 11 seniors, 16 juniors, 25 Sophomores, 22 Freshmen. This week we'll take an interest survey and also find out who is interested in special groups, in order to get Vocal Jazz underway next week. In the next two days we will finish up voice testing and get a finalized seating chart.
Singing Skills: Begin the Seven Fundamentals for Singers; we'll do discovery sessions on posture, alignment, breathing and breath energy, and breath to sound flow this week.
Music Reading Skills: We'll work aurally a lot this week with do-re-mi etc. to get comfort level going and some multi-tasking with rhythms. Later in the week we'll get going with five tone scale reading and simple rhythms
Music Analysis: We will do quite a bit of analysis this week as we introduce 3 of the 5 pieces we'll need to learn for the festival. Mozart has a lot of depth to it, the Joyful Noise has many layers to examine, and Inscription of Hope is a lovely study in harmony and phrasing.
Listening/Evaluation Skills: We'll work to sensitize the choir to listening to ourselves and each other, observing and experimenting with sounds we make
