Week: 10/05/2009 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements; The festival is just a week away! We will be assigning students to help with setup and take down. Students interested in Boys'50's and Choralaires need to stop in to express intent! We'll be discussing protocol, dress, and schedule for the festival. Make up work is now available!
Voice Skills: alignment, freedom, body in support, energized breath to sing, consonants as part of the breath flow, vocal tract shaping, open mouth, jaw, throat, vertical space. These concepts are being delved into through experiential comparison and contrast. We are using rounds and folksongs as well as warm up exercises to practice these concepts: Dona Nobis Pacem, Same Train, and Building Beautiful Voices exercises.
Reading skills: We continue to work intervals, multi-task rhythms and sightreading five tone patterns. Portions of the music we have been learning we also use solfege and note names for practice.
Repertoire: Finish the ending of "Inscription of Hope", boys gain confidence in words and notes "Trilogy of Knighthood", Mozart, we need to improve counting for entrances, Artman, finish the ending and put the piece together from start to finish. Moanin' Dove needs repetition for counting confidence, and parts for the high sopranos.
Analysis skills: We have introduced and learned all five pieces now. The students will receive a sheet that outlines the music vocabulary and text vocabulary they need to know, as well as highlights of the significant elements that are contained in each piece.
Paperwork: The goal is to have portfolios in the hands of all the choir students by Thursday. They will need to get started on a song analysis and a song study sheet of "Make a Joyful Noise"
