Monday:
Announcements: last week was a whirlwind of activities. The students felt a real sense of accomplishment with their Christmas concert. The special groups did well, and the choir felt very prepared. The students always enjoy singing the Hallelujah CHorus with community people. We started three of our four selected Pops Concert pieces.HOpefully this week we will get additional copies of our 4th choice. The Dorian students will start to rehearse this week, and the contest music selection committee will meet on Tuesday. The Boys' 50's will make some pops concert selections for their group. The Pops concert this year will feature solos and duets on piano, guitar, singing, instruments: this will be during the 45 minutes people enjoy pie/ice cream and socialize prior to the concert. The actual concert will start at 7:30; at which point the audience members will be seated in the bleachers.
Tuesday:
Voice Skills: We are making excellent progress on resonance and intonation. Our featured skill this week will be onsets/releases combined with diction. The students enjoy discovery and experiential learning; but it helps to put names on the concepts.I have been reminding them that they need to be able to do these skills at the end of the quarter.
Wednesday:
Music Reading Skills: We are going to work on p. 14 of the rhythm skills and p.148 of the melodic reading skills
Thursday:
Repertoire and Analysis Skills:The Lion song is pretty basic, but there are some good rhythm patterns and harmony techniques in Summer Lovin', Close to You has obvious form and clever text.
Friday:
Listening: Looking for our CD from the radio to return and we'll listen to it and analyze ourselves for improvement and where we still need to go.
