Comparison/Contrast essay--purpose: comparing x with y to support x is better, worse, or z--comparison/contrast as strategy to achieve purpose: comparing Obama and Gingrich in order to show why Gingrich (or Obama) would lead better, comparing book texts and etexts to show why books are more advantageous to economic growth

in groups, list other examples of using comparison/contrast as a strategy for fulfilling purpose; comparison/contrast structure options: each separate, point-by-point, combined; points of comparison/contrast: apples to apples; read 146-150, list the points of comparison/contrast, which structure dominates, list author's purpose
