Finding Common Ground essay--an idiom is "common ground": what's it mean?--might be a venn subset, might be compromise; the insurance debate with opposing positions and ideas held in common (venn diagram);

read 184-191; due Friday

Explain a Concept essay--reflection due end of day

Thursday:
Cohesion--finish cohesionvevicesanalysis.doc exercise; do paragraph dissection exercise using a para. from the Explain a Concept essay: does each sentence after the first relate back to the previous (does the new connect to the known)? revise the paragraph to produce known-new chains, due email original and revised drafts by Sunday night by 10:00


Friday:
Finding Common Ground--review reading from Wednesday: purpose: to inform about debate, to suggest where common ground may lie;

the basic features: summary leads to analysis: clarify positions, identifying points of comparison/contrast and the "overlaps", kinds of arguments made; a basic structure/outline;

read example: Bernard--191-194; what are the two positions?; where does the author see the possibility of finding common ground?;

what's each paragraph accomplish?--list, due Monday
