Monday:
First we will finish eutrophication notes and lab questions. Then we will read the different parts of the water quality index lab that we will perform next week, and we will determine the purpose/importance of each part.
Homework:
1-2 sentence summary statement of each water test we will run at Dutch Charlie Wednesday.
Extra Credit: Bring a labeled bottle of water from a water source at home. (Creek, pond, and lake water preferred.)
Tuesday:
Today we will talk about the step by step procedures we will use tomorrow, how to use the equipment, how to fill out the data sheet, and determine the order of the experiments.
Homework:
Dress appropriately for the weather tomorrow. Bring clean rubber boots or strap on athletic sandals if you have them and an old hand towel.
Wednesday:
The Earth Science class is going to Dutch Charlie today to run water quality tests including dissolved oxygen, phosphate levels, nitrate levels, pH, temperature, & turbidity
They will also collect samples to run test on fecal coliform, total solids, & biological oxygen demand later.
Homework:
Work on water review wksht due Friday
Thursday:
Today we will discuss what we learned yesterday and perform calculations. We will run our total solids test today, but we have to wait for 2-3 days for fecal coliform and 5 days later for BOD. If time allows we will look at wastewater treatment in towns and cities.
Friday:
Today we will analyze our fecal coliform results, finish our total solids test and perform calculations. And we will complete some eutrophication notes and lab questions from an in school water quality lab. Students will get a lab write up assignment from our field trip.
Homework:
Water review wksht due today
Water test on Wednesday.
