Read "Paula"; list three/four chucks that make the greatest impression; note how the greatest impressions drive your sense of what's interesting in the story; small groups: list what Allende is "trying to say".

Read Ambush; list details that attack the senses; find at least one of each.
Pronoun usage--who/whom in questions.

The senses--list; write a happy person using three senses to create the person.
Re-read "Paula"; list three sensory details; state how they affect the reader.
Follow a single sense through the story; list instances; state affect on reader; in pairs compare lists; make two general statements as to the effect of sensory details.
Read "Coming Into the Counrty" excerpt; list sensory details (10 instances).
