Monday:
Review the sentence, sentence problems (run on, frag, redundancy, empty expression), sentence effectiveness (precise langauge--connotation/denotation, figurative language--personification, metaphor, simile), and variety using sentence types. Review the expository paragraph and essay elements. Review writing process.
Finish drafting/revising the three paragraphs (twice) from ex. 4.
Literary elements--overview: plot/conflict, theme, setting (mood), characterization, point of view (tone); read Through the Tunnel, questions.
Tuesday:
Review the sentence, sentence problems (run on, frag, redundancy, empty expression), sentence effectiveness (precise langauge--connotation/denotation, figurative language--personification, metaphor, simile), and variety using sentence types. Review the expository paragraph and essay elements. Review writing process.
Add hook and conclusion to the topical essay (based on ex. 4.).
Review Through the Tunnel; make character web--indicate static or dynamic; define, discuss symbolism in the story.
Wednesday:
Quiz on the sentence, sentence problems (run on, frag, redundancy, empty expression), sentence effectiveness (precise langauge--connotation/denotation, figurative language--personification, metaphor, simile), and variety using sentence types, the expository paragraph and essay elements, and the writing process.
Read "Contents of a Dead Man's Pockets", questions. Do character web; paragraph on static/dynamic quality of character
Thursday:
Review quiz.
Review "Contents of a Dead Man's Pockets"; type paragraph.
The Topical Essay--definitions; example, questions.
Friday:
Prewriting the topical essay.
Writing qualities: sentence variety based on sentence beginnings.
Video--"Much Ado About Nothing".
