Review "A Modest Proposal"--verbal irony produced by overreaction, exaggeration, understating: which leads to sarcasm/satire; other forms of irony: situational, dramatic--defined

Life 101 until 10:45

Sentence definition--has subject/verb, complete though, cap/period etc.

Review irony: definitions, how it's produced (the three different forms), what it can lead to (sarcasm, satire)

Read "The Lottery"; respond to the handout questions (any four); indicate literal or inferential comprehension questions

Independent Reading

Sentences--run, frags, sentences ex.

Review "The Lottery"--situational irony; theme: what the story is really about; plot: what the story is about;

Irony--read "Lamb to the Slaughter"; what's the irony in the story?--respond with a paragraph; spell/vocab: list/definitions, fill in blanks, answer questions
