Literature study--discuss why

Symbolism--an object that stands for some person, institution, product

Allegory--a story that on a symbolic level has elements that stand for elements in society; if the story was about our society, but was told in the context of a farm, who would be the president, the general, government spokesperson, the common people, the rebel

A society of children, no corrupt politician, no war-monger generals, no shady lawyers, no fancy pants elite intellectuals

Lord of the Flies--Read chapter 1, questions due Wed. beginning of class

Lord of the Flies--review questions/reading: the irony of rescue; symbolism: glasses, conch; archetypes: who's Piggy, Ralph, Jack, Simon;

note details related to the appearance of the island, later students will render it;

read chapters 3-4; do quiz

Lord of the Flies--review quiz; do handout questions on 1-3 (paragraph evaluation criteria); type one of the paragraphs

read chapter 4

Spring play--2:00
