Life Music 7-8 1st Q 09.10 Lesson Plans
Week: 10/26/2009 Instructor: Constance Knott Academics
Announcements: The students have skills checklists that they are working to complete. It includes written and hands on skills
Monday: We are going to continue work on individual compositions. If they want to have guitar accompaniment with their songs, they may need to create a piece in a minor. The students must be able to play their own creation on a keyboard or an Orff instrument. We will talk about adding chords; and we'll write bass clef chords on staff paper. We will also practice composing a drum part, and other percussion or Orff instruments. More time will be devoted to writing rhythm patterns this week.
Instruments: With our new guitars we are able to have more students playing at the same time ; but does time ever go quickly!!! We have 6 class periods for the students to accomplish two to three chords and some strumming. The students have been working with an adult on the C Major simple melodies. This week we will work on playing chords in the left hand on keyboards or Orff instruments. With guitars we are working on a minor and e minor, and maybe some students will be able to add three major chords to go with the key of C major
Today will be mostly a practice day. Guitars, keyboards, Orff instruments, drums: working on what is needed for their songs.
We will do rotations to give the students a chance to practice on their own.
We will subdivide the class into groups of five; when each person plays his/her own piece on a keyboard, the others will play guitar, Orff, percussion, drum. For his/her song the composer can compose the accompaniment parts and/or allow the group members to improvise. Then we will practice again as we did on Wednesday.
