Hamlet: group reading of act 1, scene 2, "O, that this too too solid flesh . . ."; how sad one can be

Hamlet--the characters: make some predictions; read the opening scene until the ghost shows up: mood in the words--the imagery, the atmosphere, and the attitudes of the characters; read to where the ghost returns--a list of troubles


Wednesday:
Video of opening scene contrasting Zeffirelli and Branaugh

Hamlet--read to the end of the scene: what Shakespeare accomplishes and how he does so in terms of beginning plot/conflict, character development, mood; the portfolio; spell/vocab list, define, use words in sentence blanks


Thursday:
Spell/vocab (Hamlet act 1)--review sentence blanks ex; use words in story blanks

Shakespeare Bio--find the big events in Shakespeare's life

Independent Reading


Friday:
Hamlet--who Hamlet is; read act 1, scene 2 to Hamlet's soliloquy; how Hamlet delivers his line, "I shall in all my best obey you."; antithesis in Claudius's lines and all the reasons why Hamlet is upset: read to Horatio's entrance/review Claudius's speech (why it's so long winded); finish scene 2--foreshadowing

Spell/vocab (Hamlet act 1): review story blanks ex.; questions
